Solo Project
Goal of the Project
The Outreach Project (TOP) was a personal art project that I created for an Art Festival called "Katti Hivvaru Fest" in the Maldives. It features surreal artwork, and vibrant colors; mixing modern art and surreal 80's-90's imagery. The goal of the project was to mix modern art styles with the popular Vaporwave design.
Vision and Innovation
The main idea for the project was inspired by 80's Retro art. The vibrant colors and stand-out imagery would make anyone's head turn to admire the chaos of colors and imagery that it threw in their face. To innovate such an amazing art style did not come without its challenges
Identifying the Challenges
The main issue any artist would naturally feel is creative blocks. The Vaporwave style had specific elements and colors that it always followed that makes it recognizable to anyone. Therefore, changing these elements meant changing the whole art style which in turn might make the artworks inspiration and goal unrecognizable.
Resolving Problems
To tackle the challenge, the designs for all the artworks followed a specific layout; with a main tile word, vaporwave design elements, and textures. This helped explore different colors and art style to implement into the vaporwave style and keep its recognizable look all the while giving it the surreal feel.
Creative Flow
Each artwork starts with a specific word, and from there the artwork is developed through many trials and errors. No two artworks are the same and always has some relation to the title word that is chosen for it. The colors and layouts also represent the word that is chosen.
Notable Features
Modern interpretation of the vaporwave design
Surreal vintage look
Viewer Feedbacks
Although this was my very first series of artworks, I received many positive comments from most of the viewers. I was also able to make a few sales of my artwork.
Conclusion
The series of artworks helped me learn how to always innovate and think outside the box when it came to creating any sort of artwork. It taught me that my imagination and capabilities are only limited by myself.
